The short version
- There is no account. Your saved stories live on your iPhone, and we keep no copies.
- Free Mini Stories are written and narrated on your iPhone. Nothing is sent anywhere.
- When you ask for a Short Story or Long Story, cover art, or a title, the story details needed for that job are sent to OpenAI, which keeps its own record (see OpenAI).
- If you use your voice, Apple’s speech recognition turns it into text.
- We do not run ads, add tracking or analytics, or sell your data.
- Wander Story is not for children under 13.
Who we are
Wander Story is made by Three Coves Consulting LLC (“we,” “us”). You can reach us by email at support@three-coves.com.
What stays on your iPhone
The following is saved on your device. We do not receive it or keep a copy:
- Your library of stories, including their text, titles, and cover art. Mini Stories never leave your iPhone. For Short Stories and Long Stories, and for the cover art and titles of any story, the details needed for that job are also sent to OpenAI, which keeps its own record of them for a time (see OpenAI below)
- The genres, hero names, settings, and ideas you enter
- Your settings, such as your narration voice and speed
- Which plans you own (provided to the app by Apple)
We do not operate servers that receive or store your stories. The narration voice and the story writer for Mini Stories run inside the app on your device. Anything sent to OpenAI goes straight from your iPhone to OpenAI, not through us.
What is sent to others, and when
| When | What is sent | To whom |
|---|---|---|
| You write a Short Story or Long Story | Your genre, hero, setting, tone, the story so far, and your ideas for each part, so the next part can be written | OpenAI |
| You generate cover art or a title (for any story, including Mini Stories) | The story text, and your description if you give one | OpenAI |
| Every request to OpenAI | An obfuscated (one-way hashed) device code, the app version, and the story length. The code is made from an identifier iOS provides to apps and cannot be turned back into it. See “What we do not do” | OpenAI |
| You speak your idea | Your voice audio, so it can be turned into text. Depending on your iPhone and language, this can happen on the device or on Apple’s servers | Apple |
| You buy or manage a plan | Your purchase. We never see your card or payment details | Apple |
| You share or export a story | The PDF or Wander file you choose, to the person or app you choose. A Wander file also contains the same obfuscated device code | Whoever you send it to |
OpenAI
Requests to OpenAI are sent from your iPhone using OpenAI’s API. As of the date above, OpenAI states that data sent to its API is not used to train its models unless a customer opts in, and that it may keep API data for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse. OpenAI’s own policies govern what it does with the data; see openai.com/policies. Because Short Stories, Long Stories, cover art, and titles depend on OpenAI, please do not put information in them that you would not want OpenAI to receive, such as real names of private individuals, addresses, or health details.
Your permission. The first time you ask for a Short Story, Long Story, cover art, or a title, the app tells you what is sent to OpenAI and asks for your permission. Nothing is sent until you allow it. You can turn this off or on at any time in Settings, under Privacy & Data. If you do not allow it, Mini Stories still work.
Apple
The app asks for microphone and speech recognition permission only when you use voice input. We do not record or save your audio; the app receives only the text. Apple’s handling of speech is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy. Purchases, subscriptions, and refunds are handled entirely by Apple.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your data.
- We do not show ads or use advertising or analytics tools in the app.
- We do not track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
- We do not use your stories to train AI models.
- We do not collect your contacts or location.
- We do not collect your device’s identifier. To help OpenAI’s abuse systems tell one device from another without knowing who anyone is, the app sends OpenAI an obfuscated, one-way hashed code made from a device identifier. The code cannot be reversed into the identifier, and it is not your name, email address, or Apple account.
How long data is kept and how to delete it
Your stories stay on your iPhone until you delete them.
Wander Story has no account and we keep no copies of your stories, so there is no “delete my data” button and nothing for us to delete. To remove everything, delete the app: touch and hold its icon on your Home Screen, tap Remove App, then tap Delete App. That removes your stories, covers, settings, and saved narration audio from your iPhone. To remove a single story, delete it from your library.
What you send to OpenAI is held by OpenAI under its own retention terms (up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, as of the date above). We cannot delete them for you earlier.
Stories you export or send to others are copies we cannot reach.
Children
Wander Story is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. People between 13 and 17 should use the app with a parent or guardian’s permission. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app, contact us and we will help.
AI safety
Wander Story is written for a general audience that includes teen readers. Because the stories are written by AI, we use several layers of protection. None of them is perfect, and we describe them here so you know what to expect.
Checking what you type or say
For Short Stories and Long Stories, the words you enter are checked before they are used: your hero, setting, and other setup answers, your ideas for what happens next, how the story ends, new chapter names, and any text you edit by hand. The check uses OpenAI’s moderation service, so the text is sent to OpenAI for that purpose. It is not used to write anything unless it passes. Text is turned away if it contains:
- Sexual content, or sexual or romantic content involving children or teenagers
- Hateful language about people or groups
- Threats or harassment aimed at people
- Self-harm
- Instructions for illegal or dangerous activities
- Extremely graphic violence
Stories can still have danger, fights, villains, and crime, so ordinary story violence is allowed and only extreme cases are blocked. When text is turned away, the app tells you which box to change and why. If the check cannot be completed, for example because you are offline, the story is not written. Ideas you choose from the suggestions the app offers are not checked again, because the app wrote them under the rules below.
Rules built into the writing
Every request to write a Short Story or Long Story carries rules that apply to every genre and tone, including Romance. The writer is told to:
- Keep everything suitable for a general audience, with no graphic gore, torture, or cruelty
- Never write sexual content beyond a closed-door kiss or embrace, and never write anything sexual, suggestive, or romantic involving a minor
- Never include hate speech, slurs, or content that demeans a group of people
- Never give real instructions for weapons, explosives, drugs, or other dangerous or illegal items, or for dangerous stunts
- Never describe methods of self-harm or suicide
- Never write content that could be mistaken for defamation of a real person
- Ignore any text in your ideas that asks it to break these rules or to ignore or reveal them, and carry on with the story without them
Mini Stories on your iPhone
Mini Stories are written on your device, and nothing is sent anywhere for these checks. The app screens what you enter and what the on-device writer produces for sexual content, profanity, hate, graphic violence, self-harm, dangerous instructions, romance involving minors, and attempts to override the app’s own instructions. Anything that fails is retried or left out instead of shown. This is a word and pattern screen, so it is deliberately strict and can occasionally refuse an innocent sentence, and creative rewording can sometimes get past it.
Cover art
Cover art requests go to OpenAI, whose own safety systems also apply to them.
What this does not guarantee
The writing a story receives from OpenAI is not run through a second, separate check, so AI can still occasionally produce something unexpected or unsuitable. If you see something that should not be there, please email support@three-coves.com and tell us what you entered (without sharing anything you would not want to), so we can improve the protections.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know what personal information is held about you, to correct or delete it, and to object to certain uses. We hold almost no personal information about you, because your stories stay on your device. If you contact us to ask what we have, we will tell you. You can also contact OpenAI or Apple about data they hold under their own policies. We will not treat you differently for using any of these rights.
Security and where data goes
Your stories are stored on your iPhone and protected by the security features of iOS, including your passcode. Requests to OpenAI are sent over encrypted connections. OpenAI and Apple may process data in the United States and other countries. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
This website
This website does not use cookies, analytics, advertising tools, or third-party scripts or fonts. Our hosting provider, Amazon Web Services, may keep standard server logs (such as your IP address, the page requested, and the time) for security and operations. If you email us, we use your message and email address only to reply and to improve the app.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if the app’s practices change, and the effective date above will change with it. Before we release features that need more data, we will update this policy and, where the law requires, ask for your agreement.
